checkpoints are not intimidating (especially in helmand) and for the life of me, i can't imagine why anyone would release such rage unless there was some, unexplained x-factor involved. like hating the last episode of 'bachelor pad' or the like. and to set the record straight, a sublime conversation in the middle of the street (odd that no traffic came by) for a couple hours with a complete stranger can be sweet. come to think of it, reminds me of sharing pizza with a random quebecois after losing a wallet in cancun...
