Forrest noted today a few Democratic Pres/VP combinations:

Obama / Biden or Clinton / Richardson

And his personal suggestion:

Edwards / Biden

What do you guys think? I'm not a huge Biden fan...I actually think Edwards would, once again, make a great VP, but he'd never stoop so low. Richardson has some serious baggage, but the guy's akin to Rendell: a guy's guy who doesn't mince words.

My current favorite would probably be Obama/Clark. Clark's flameout last time around was almost entirely due to his early flatfootedness. Plus, it would defend against any criticism of Obama as "not seasoned enough", freeing Obama to go on the offense on almost all topics, something he's done before.

Like Ed, I am not much of a Biden fan, generally. But I think he has three things to offer Edwards (and could potentially offer the same to Obama and maybe even Clinton or some of the governors):

  • Is, and is perceived as, centrist
  • Has, and is perceived as having, national security credentials
  • In political terms, he is not afraid of getting in a fight (Edwards seemed to have some of the right instincts as Kerry's running mate, but Edwards just couldn't do the junkyard dog thing).

Finally, Biden satisfies the first law of VP choices: "First, do no harm." Nobody is going to vote against a candidate because Biden is his no. 2.

I like Clark a lot, too, but Ed's logic is entirely incomprehensible to me: Clark is plenty "seasoned" as a general and a leader, but his flameout last time around presented him as entirely unseasoned when it comes to doing what politicians do. And he's never held elected office.

Ed's pairing of Clinton with Richardson is amusing to me, because from my understanding, Richardson's social life is such that Hillary might feel like she'd installed Bill in the Vice President's office.

Oh, wait... | forrest

That was my pairing of Clinton with Richardson (stolen from elsewhere on the interweb). It's still funny to me.

Now that Richardson's in the race, I'm hoping to get some media coverage of him so that I can see him on TV and evaluate whether he really is as charismatic as they say in New Mexico.
