Slate nails them.

For the replay, head over here. Damn. Even Kurtz slammed them. You can bet the Daily Show will be all over this tonight...

Damn. I just read one of Will Saletan's greatest pieces summarizing what I feel about our current president. Remember when the towers fell and Bush was jetting around the midwest in his plane, avoiding coming back to DC? Heroism is often the result of circumstance and not planning. A soldier can be courageous (ie, willing to risk his life for his country) and yet still not be heroic. Hence, soldiers who jump into trenches to save comrades at great personal risk get medals, and those who do not merely serve courageously. I think the greatest lie of the past three years has been that Bush was a "hero" after September 11th. When Bill Maher commented that the terrorists were willing to die for their cause and we were not, he may have been insensitive, but his premise isn't that far off the mark. And Bush's willingness to visit ground zero is definitely not heroism. From the piece:

This is Bush's heroism? Showing up three days later, "remaining in the area," and enduring a hug?

The only moment of physical bravery any of last night's speakers could find in Bush's life was his secret trip to Iraq. "As I think about his leadership," Kerik recalled, "I think of the courage it took for our commander in chief to land on an airstrip in the dark of night, a world away, to be with our troops on Thanksgiving."

Thanksgiving? You mean, six months after we captured the airport and Bush declared victory?

And isn't "the dark of night" normally a term we use to describe the preferred arrival and departure time of people who aren't exactly overflowing with courage?

Or is Kerik pointing out the difficulty of landing a plane in the dark? Is he unaware, perhaps, that Bush wasn't flying the plane? That once again, as in Vietnam, somebody else was doing the hard part and Bush was along for the ride? That Air Force One has more security systems than any other vehicle on Earth? That Bush went to Baghdad to "be with" the troops in the same way he went to New York to "be with" the firefighters? That waiting for a safe time and place to "be with" people who have braved unsafe places at unsafe times is the difference between heroism and a photo op?

Read the whole thing. It's spot on. And overdue.

All you people with logins can now change your own damn border color. So get to it!

It took a great deal of time for me to code this. So appreciate it.

A nice update of where Nader is off or on the ballot. It looks like things are going well for us, especially now that he is off the PA ballot.

Oh, and check out David Ashe's website. If you're not sure why...you need to read the news.

As soon as I get pictures from the beach uploaded, I'll throw them on the site.

Work is super-busy, so I'll recap last week later as well. For now, I am merely happy that I understand the deal with Spacecataz. A new show would rock...

If you haven't seen the Ben Barnes video you definitely need to give it a look. Very candid and compelling. This guy needs to stump more for Kerry.

More Barnes footage is available here.

Scandalous.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts need to be made on the premises. Not brought in by bus and reglazed. I'm disappointed, although I haven't had any yet. Anyone who has ever been to the real store in Alexandria can attest that the conveyor line is an integral part of the experience.

Damn. I leave for a week and then this happens. I knew I should've opened my own store downtown.

I'm back from the beach. Yay! I've never had an entire vacation without any rain. Blue skies are like a drug.
