the dredwerkz

latest comments:

An arrest, a couple felonies committed, a few friends wrecked, a couple cars totalled (including a certain red bmw with plenty of memories), a kid almost killed, several people sent to the hospital and a capacity crowd. This all went down before the party really started to heat up. It's going to be tough to top this particular event, but I'm already planning out our next event. I'd like to thank everyone for coming, especially those who helped out with the...um...unplanned excitement.

The Dredwerkz war zone is much cleaner than before, but I took a day off of work to help out with Brad's ACL operation today. It went smooth, so he should be back to his regular self in no time, albeit without his wheels.

I'll give out a special moment of silence for the vehicle when it's actually been put down. For now it's still driveable, sitting forlonly in a lot somewhere in DC or Maryland.

Time to chalk the weekend down in the record books.

So I realized last night that I need to work on my ABCs last night. As in, "Always Be Closing". It's not that I need to work on my delivery, or to change things around any, merely that I often forget to ask people for a number or an e-mail address near the end of the conversation. Not for the big closings, of course, just the medium sized McMansions...the ones you think look nice from the outside, but after you fail to sell them you can make plenty of snarky comments like "you can see into their neighbors bedroom" or "they spent way too much for what they got". The stately manor houses are easy to stay focused on, if only because it seems less fun and more like work. But the smaller fish are often distracting: you end up having a good time, meeting the friends, clicking well overall. And as the evening winds down the back of my mind thinks "Oh, hey, I'll see this person again" not realizing that in a city this big, the chances of said serendiptious encounter are quite small to non-existent.

So Gil needs a new car. So I'll start playing the game it was meant to be played, firing on all cylinders regardless of whether it's a two or twenty bedroom place. The customers demand nothing less, right?

The combination of high-humidity and high heat has crept back into the city. It's really too bad, because the cold rainy weather had gone on for long enough for some people to begin complaining about it, setting the stage for a massive hubris slap in the face for them. Either way, it stinks. You can't walk from one place to another without breaking a sweat, regardless of whether your sporting the linen or not.

On a weird personal note smacking of said hubris above, I discovered last night that, despite being a big jerk and never calling this woman I went on a date with back, that (according to her friends) she didn't even blink. Evidently she was obsessed with some other guy (could have been the reason the date didn't go as well as it could've) who she used to go out with, and had broken up with. Captain Clueless (yeah, that's me!) didn't even pick up on this important fact, so of course I felt slightly guilty after she told me a story about how the last guy she'd been on a date with hadn't called her back after the first date. Of course, my guilt kicked in after I did the same thing to her, but now my conscience is completely clear. It's really the perfect date: I had a good time, but not as good as I'd have wanted, yet in any other situation I'd probably be crucified for being overly picky or (if I actually had called her back) annoyed that I was still going out with someone that had such subtle but inescapably flaws to begin with. (She didn't like Krispy Kreme doughnuts...who doesn't like KKs?)

On the financial side, I noticed that my net worth has now (the credit card bills all started coming in) decreased almost exactly 75% over the past two weeks. I'm still in the black, but just barely. Between this weekend's party preparations and the rent coming due, I'm just hoping to squeek by. We'll see how it goes.

Speaking of said party, I guess I hadn't mentioned it on the website before now. So if you're interested in having a good time, and I know you, feel free to drop on by. Things should get, as usual, fairly crazy. Hopefully the weather will comply (it's supposed to be cloudy on Saturday which would normally tick me off but if it keeps the area cooler and yet doesn't rain, it's ideal for the party environment) and people will come and we'll get back into the old dredwerkzian swing of things where we have a party every month or so. It's been awhile, but I'd like to get back into that groove.

For those of us who wish to be cultured and depraved at the same time, I highly recommend Elftor in French. Weird stuff, eh?

Heh. Cheesetor becomes Fromagetor when translated into French. Fromagetor. Cool.

So far.

The presence of blue skies, bright sun, tasty food and good conversation have made the office seem brighter than normal. Even though I know the rain will be back eventually, I'm excited right now, and right now is all that matters. Live in the now, right?

Okay, I've got my own site listed now. (Read this article for the background.) So simply click here and fill out the form and I can start moving up the ranks post haste. I won't earn as much as some people, but every little bit counts, in my opinion. Go Dems!

Forget Demzilla. This is real news: we've finally done it. Check out this article which points out a new fundraising tool called ePatriots for the Dems to rival anything the GOP has. Essentially, the code on a popular blog or website will allow DNC-supporting blogs to track the amount of cash they raise (much like an Amazon link...only instead of money back you can earn cool prizes) and at the end of the nomination fight, to garner enough cash to defeat Bush and his minions. We're way in front of the elephants on this one...as Dean and his meetup challenge folks can attest. So go to the site, sign your blog up today and start raising money for the DNC.

The Donkeys are starting to get serious.
